George Shepherd’s Observer’s and Air Gunner’s Flying Log Book as an Air Gunner from 24 December 1943 until July 1948. Training took place with 11 Air Gunnery School, 12 Operational Training Unit, 1657 Conversion Unit and 3 Lancaster finishing School. Posted to 115 Squadron for operations in August 1944. Posted to 7 Squadron Pathfinders after completion of first operational tour in December 1944. Final post-war posting was to 214 Squadron. Served at RAF Andreas, RAF Chipping Warden, RAF Shenington (Edgehill), RAF Stradishall, RAF Feltwell, RAF Witchford, RAF Warboys, RAF Oakington, RAF Mepal, RAF Upwood. Aircraft flown were Anson, Wellington, Stirling, Lancaster. Flew 29 Operations (18 day and 11 night) with 115 Squadron. His targets included Mare de Mange, Foret de Lucheux, Lens, Hamel, St. Trond, Russelsheim, Kiel, Stettin, Pont Remy, Eindhoven, Le Havre, Kamen, Neuss, Calais, Saarbrucken, Dortmund, Emmerich, Duisburg, Wilhelmshaven, Bonn, Vlissingen, Essen, Cologne, Homberg, Solingen. Also 29 operations (8 day and 21 night) with 7 Squadron. Target included Karlsruhe, Soest, Essen, Ulm, Osterfeld, Ludwigshafen, Hanover, Hanau, Munich, Stuttgart, Dresden, Chemnitz, Dortmund, Worms, Pforzheim, Mainz, Hamburg, Wuppertal, Hagen, Rheine, Hildesheim, Kiel, Bayreuth, Potsdam. Took part in 1 Operation Manna (Rotterdam), 2 Operation Exodus (Brussels and Juvencourt), 2 Operation Post Mortem (Flensburg ) and an Operation Spasm flight to Berlin. His pilot in 115 and 7 Squadron was Flight Lieutenant Boden. In 7 Squadron he also flew single operations with Flying Officer Layton, Wing Commander Allcock and 5 operations with Flight Lieutenant Thomson.
