Description

This is a handwritten record of the operations of 9 Squadron from 18th November 1943 to 16th June 1944. For each operation it includes many details of the target, routes, bomb load, a description of results, and if any did not return. Inserted is the battle order for each operation with details of the crew.
The last few pages contain a summary of each pilot, the number of operations completed and what happened to them i.e. tour expired, posted out of 9 Squadron or missing/killed in action. There is an index listing each operation and a monthly summary of raids. This summary includes information from the third volume.

9 Squadron were operating Lancasters I and III from RAF Bardney.

Over the period covered by this record 9 Squadron flew 65 night bombing operations. Targets included Berlin (many times), Leipzig, Frankfurt, Stettin, Braunschweig, Magdeburg, Stuttgart, Schweinfurt, Augsburg, Marignane, Aulnoye, Essen, Nuremberg, Toulouse, Tours, Paris - Juvisy, Paris - La Chapelle, Munich, Saint Medard en Jalles, Toulouse - St Martin du Touch, Mailly-le-Camp, Sable-sur-Sarthe, Lanveoc, Lille, Leopoldsburg, Duisburg, Eindhoven, Nantes, Cherbourg, Saumur, Cherbourg - Ferme d’Urville, Saint Pierre du Mont, Argentan, Rennes, Orléans, Poitiers, Aunay sur Odon, Châtellerault.
