Description
This is a handwritten record of the operations of 9 Squadron from 19th June to 22nd November 1944. For each operation it includes many details of the target, routes, bomb load, a description of results, and if any did not return. Inserted is the battle order for each operation with details of the crew. There is an index listing each operation.
9 Squadron were operating Lancasters I and III from RAF Bardney.
Over the period covered by this record 9 Squadron flew a total 58 bombing operations (31 day and 27 night operations). Targets included Watten, Gelsenkirchen, Limoges, Prouville, Vitry le Francois, Beauvoir, Creil, St Leu D’esserent, Culmont, Chalindrey, Villeneuve, Nevers, Caen, Revigny, Thiverny, Courtrai, Kiel, Stuttgart, Donges, Saint Cyr, Givors, Cahagnes, Rilly La Montagne, Joigny, Mont Candon, Bois de Cassen, Trossy Saint Maximin, Etaples, Lorient, La Pallice, Bordeaux, Brest, Gilze Rijen, Ijmuiden, the Munster Aqueduct, Karlsruhe, Kaiserlautern, Wilhelmshaven, Bremen, Flushing, the Sorpe Dam, Westkapelle, Nuremburg, Ladbergen
The Squadron carried out three operations against the Tirpitz in Kåfjord and Tromsø Fjords, Norway. The last operation on 12 November 1944 successfully sunk the battleship.
Also included are two night operations by 227 Squadron (Braunschweig and Nuremburg) and one day operation by 189 Squadron (Homberg).
