Description
P M Edge’s Flying Log Book as a bomb aimer from 20th March 1943 until 28th September 1944. Initial bombing and gunnery training at 41 Air School in South Africa, before posting back to the UK in September 1943. Further training at 10 Advanced Flying Unit, 84 Operational Training Unit, 1653 Conversion Unit and 3 Lancaster Finishing Unit before joining 15 Squadron for operations.
Served at South Africa (East London), RAF Dumfries, RAF Desbrough, RAF Chedburgh, RAF Feltwell, RAF Mildenhall, RAF Husbands Bosworth, RAF Prestwick.
Aircraft flown were Anson, Oxford, Wellington, Stirling, Lancaster.
He flew a total of 31 operations (16 day and 15 night). Targets included Louvain, Le Mans, Lisieux, Massy-Palaiseau, Le Hey, Villers-Bocage, Wizernes, Vaires, Châlons-sur-Marne, Stuttgart, Coulonvillers, Bec d’Ambes, Pont-Remy, Fort d'Englos (Lille), St Quentin, Stettin, Bremen, Pont Remy, Eindhoven, Boulogne, Neuss, Calais.
His pilot for his first operation was Flight Lieutenant Brooks. For all subsequent operations it was Flight Lieutenant Hobbs.
