Pilot Officer Hinshelwood’s Log Book as an Air Gunner from 5th September 1943 until 6th October 1944. He started training at No. 2 Air Gunnery School and then 10 Operational Training Unit. Posted to 1658 Conversion Unit in March 1944. Operational posting to 78 Squadron in April.
Served at RAF Dalcross, RAF Abingdon, RAF Stanton-Harcourt, RAF Riccall, RAF Breighton.
Aircraft flown were Anson, Whitley and Halifax.
1 night leaflet dropping operation with 10 OTU to Paris. Flew 37 bombing and mine-laying operations with 78 Squadron (11 day and 26 night). Targets included Paris, Malines, Leopoldsburg, Trappes marshalling yard, Mont Fleury Battery, Saint-Lô, Laval Airfield, Amiens, Laon, Noyelle-en-Chaussée, Montorgueil, Mont Candon, Blainville-sur-l'Eau, Saint-Martin-l'Hortier, Chateau Bernapre, Helgoland, Nucourt, Caen, Acquet, Bottrop, Stuttgart, Foret de Nieppe, Brest, Forêt De Mormal, Braunschweig, Falaise, Kiel Bay, Homberg, Kiel, Calais, Neuss, Cap Gris Nez, Kattegat.
His pilot for all his operations was Flight Lieutenant Prichard.
