Madam,
With reference to the letter from this department dated 17th June, 1941, I am directed to inform you with deep regret that all efforts to trace your husband, Wing Commander A.L. Christian have proved unavailing.
In view of the lapse of time, it is felt that there can now be little hope of his being alive, but action to presume that he has lost his life will not be taken until at least 6 months from the date on which he was reported missing.
Such action will then be for official purposes only, and you will be duly informed.
Meanwhile I am to assure you, with the sincere sympathy of the department, that all possible enquiries will continue to be made.
I am, Madam,
Your obedient Servant,

for Director of Personal Services.
Mrs. A.L. Christian,
