Madam,

With reference to this department’s letter of 23rd May, 1941, I am directed to inform you that the rate of the temporary allowance now being paid to you will be amended to £22.10.0d (twenty-two pounds, ten shillings) a calendar month with effect from 5th September, 1941, i.e. seventeen weeks from the date of notification that your husband was missing.

I am to explain that this monthly rate of allowance is one-twelfth of the annual pension that would be payable if it were known that your husband had died in circumstances entitling you to pension. Payment at this rate

I am directed to refer to a letter from this Department dated 12th May, 1941, and to inform you with regret that no news has been received of your husband Wing Commander Arnold Louis Christian since he was reported missing on 8th May, 1941.

The aircraft took off at approximately 5.15 a.m. on 8th May. It was last seen 2 miles from the Norwegian coast heading inland.

I am to add an expression of the Department’s sincere sympathy and to assure you that any further news will be immediately communicated to you.
