429 Squadron was a Canadian squadron formed at RAF East Moor with Wellingtons in November 1942 as part of 4 Group. In April 1943 it transferred to the Canadian 6 Group in April 1943 and in August 1943 it moved to RAF Leeming and converted to Halifaxes. In March 1945 it switched to Lancasters which it used for the last two months of the war. The squadron took part in Operation Dodge, the repatriation of service personnel from Italy.
