My own darling Daddy,
Thank you for your letter and all your news. Mrs Lawton does only a little of the ironing the [inserted] vast [/inserted] majority of it is done by Mum, who deserves a medal for all the hard work she does. It is really tough on her as the amount of washing ironing is colossal. Some of the fellows wear dirty shirts & socks for ages, & we are jolly lucky not to be in a similar position.
I am glad to hear you are feeling better. This evening I went to the flicks with Mummy to Tussaud’s Cinema, (within the custelage of Madame Tussauds, [deleted] my [/deleted] the legal side of my nature is bursting forth!).
I haven’t played any games lately, but have done a good deal of work. Yesterday I worked at King’s in the morning then went with another boy to the British Museum. When I got home I did some more work. We listened in [deleted] fragment of word [/deleted] [deleted] to [/deleted] to the commentary on the tennis at Wimbledon yesterday & as it was very exciting we thoroughly enjoyed it.
[page break]
I have not grown at all though Steve has and is [underlined] now [/underlined] only about an inch, if that much, shorter than I am.
Those coloured snaps I mentioned, have come out very well indeed. They are two snaps of Dave and I together in Queen Mary’s Gardens in Regents’ Park, the rest of the roll was taken at Kemsing when Mum went there for the week end a short time ago.
I heard from the hockey secretary that I shall probably be playing left [indecipherable] for the 1st this season. I shall probably play though I would rather play centre-half & left-back. Should I have any trouble & if I am just into the 2nd I won’t play for King’s but will for Faraday [indecipherable] 1st.
If you show eagerness at play, it does not seem to appreciated, but if you are indifferent, from what I have seen, apparently you are in great demand. No more to-day. Love to Mrs Joseph. God bless & keep you, & bring you back safely to us. With lots of love & kisses
from your loving son
