L Pickford’s Observer’s Flying Log Book covering the period from 17 October 1938 to 17 May 1947, detailing his flying training and operations flown as Wireless Operator/ Air Gunner. He was stationed at RAF Bassingbourn (104 Squadron), RAF West Raynham (101 Squadron), RAF Wyton (139 Squadron), RAF Horsham St Faith (139 Squadron), RAF Betheniville (139 Squadron), RAF Plivot (139 Squadron), RAF Upwood (17 OTU), RAF Gibraltar (139 Squadron), RAF Luqa (139 Squadron), RAF Yatesbury (2 Radio School), RAF Nuneaton (105 OTU), RAF Netheravon (53 Squadron) and RAF Changi (48 Squadron). Aircraft flown in Valentia, Wallace, Wapiti, Blenheim, Anson, Dakota, Dominie, Proctor, Wellington, York and Viking. He flew on one night operation and 47 day operations with 139 Squadron, total 48. Targets were Texel, Schipol, Calais, Soesterburg, Deurne, Caen, Guernsey, Cap Griz Nez, Gilze-Regen, Ghent, Dunkirk, Zeebrucke, Den Helder, Le Havre, Sylt, Brest, Borkum, Ijmuiden, Leyden, Flakker, Vlieland, Zandfort, Algiers, sea sweeps Malta, sea sweep Pantellaria, Sfax, Pantellaria and unspecified. He was shot down on 3 June 1941 in attack on Pantellaria and next entry is November 1944 for flight back to UK. He then flew as a Radio Officer with BOAC and BEA until February 1947 when he re-joined the RAF and flew in transport aircraft in the Far East until 17 May 1947.
