Sir,

I am directed to inform you, with regret, that in view of the lapse of time and the absence of any further news regarding your son, Warrant Officer J.G. Madge (1398434) since he was reported missing, action has now been taken to presume, for official purposes, that he lost his life on the 11th November, 1944.

In conveying this information, I am to express to you the sympathy of the Air Ministry.

I am commanded by Air Council to express to you their great regret on learning that your husband, Warrant Officer John George Madge, Royal Air Force, has been missing since the night of 10th/11th November, 1944, when a Lancaster aircraft in which he was flying as mid-upper gunner set out for a cross country exercise flight and was not heard from again.

The Air Council desire me to convey to you their sympathy in your great anxiety.
