3rd Dec. ’44.

Dear Mum, Dad & Fmly, [sic] I did not expect to be writing to you from Stalag IVB a few months back. I though [sic] I would be experiencing more congenial surroundings, perhaps sitting with you by the fireside at the particular moment. However I was wrong, & perhaps the extra few months waiting here may turn out to be the best in the long run, for our post war lives. Being December I suppose everyone should be preparing for Christmas, I don’t know quite how it affects us here. I should imagine that the entertainments have something in production. Last year from what I can gather was pretty good all round, it seems different somehow now because of the war situation, there’s a different atmosphere, one of expectation so to speak, and this tends to make us more complacent about preparing for such events as Christmas. Of course you all know, the biggest Christmas present we could have. I expect you all are looking forward to the 25th, plenty of Turkey, refreshment etc. I remember last year very vividly it will provide me with plenty of food for thought, for this year. Well there’s little news really, I’ve received two old letters July & Aug, from Twins Harold & Maisie. Lectures are still given in evenings, some are quite interesting. We have a new show which I see this week “Springtime for Jennifer” I understand it is very good indeed. It’s a musical comedy written entirely by prisoners of war, it has several scenes admirably constructed. Can you tell me how my position stands after war for Civil Flying, if this is not practicable, my position with Unilever. I may be able to study something. Do you hear from Pat still she seems busy. Cheerio now love, Reg.
