Dear Norman,
I’ve just received your first airgraph, the first intimation of your new address. The most recent letters I have received were dated 2nd and 4th Dec. The previous one [deleted] were [/deleted] [inserted] was [/inserted] dated early in November so apparently some are missing. The only one I’ve received from you was dated 29th Oct and arrived in damp and dilapidated condition as did the one from Mother dated 6th Nov. My latest information of you was that you had “got home for a few hrs on New Year’s Day and left on the Sunday morning” – that was in Mother’s first airgraph dated 8th Jan. (Correction – I also received letter from you dated 1st Nov)
Apparently you’ve been doing some flying. Pop says in his letter of 4th Dec. that you “just mentioned” that you’d been flying. I still haven’t the foggiest idea of what you’re doing, whether you’re on that “special job” or on aircrew training or training as pilot. I deduce that it must be the former, otherwise you wouldn’t have been flying so early. We have never been within 100 yds of an aircraft since we joined, except for 10 chaps who were next to the neighbouring aerodrome to clean two or three ancient training aircraft when we had nothing to do.
We’re now in the second week of the course here and as there’s a lot to learn in a short time we shall have to do a good deal of swotting in order to pass. Cheerio now, Norman, and carry on with the good work.
Ron.
P.S. Please write smaller. You’ll get twice as many lines in.
