Dear Hazel,
I have just received 2 airgraphs from home today. One was from you (dated 1/2/43) and the other one was from mother (dated 31/1/43). Thank you very much (both of you) for your birthday greetings.
I was very pleased to hear that you’re learning to play the piano and also very pleased to think that I’m too far away to hear you practicing. I expect Norman will have been pulling your leg too while he was on leave a week ago. Anyway, carry on with the good work, Hazel and remember you can only learn with constant practice. (Please excuse the sloping writing).
Congratulations, Hazel on finishing at the top of the form. I’m a little late, I believe but the letter from home telling me arrived only 2 days ago (dated 29/12/43), you did very well and I hope you can keep it up. You can show mum this airgraph as evidence that she is to pay you 10/- out of my allotment and the same applies if you finish first in the form this term. I haven’t received Suddaby’s letter yet but it will turn up sooner or later I expect. I was pleased to hear that Albert Swales has got his stripes. He’ll probably arrive in Hull at the same time as this airgraph.
Cheerio Hazel, your affectionate Ron xxxxxx
