Dear Mum, Dad, Hazel & Norman,
I received an airgraph from home a few days ago dated 25/6/43, written just after the raid on Hull. I sent you a telegram (E.F.M.) on Monday, though I expect it will take some time to arrive. I have also paid for three food parcels to be sent to you, variously addressed. The arrival of these parcels may be about a month after this airgraph at an average estimate. Anyway, I hope some or all of them arrive safely.
I don’t know whether I have the right idea, but I’m sticking to dried fruit, candied peel & cooking fat. I have also collected another small stock ready to send. You may remember the photographs I mentioned some time ago. I decided it would be safer to hang on to them rather than risk losing them en route.
So far I have managed to remain quite solvent financially and I think I shall be able to manage reasonably well though I still have one or two minor items of under-clothing to acquire.
I wrote to the Smyth’s during the past week so I expect I shall be receiving a reply in the next few days. I am very sorry I have so little to write home about. I shall have to take a trip on the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway and describe it to you, though I suppose it would be somewhat like a busman’s holiday.
Once more, Cheerio & au revoir. God bless you all,
Ron XXXXXX
