Dear Mum, Dad, Hazel & Norman,
I hope you’re receiving my airgraphs as regularly as I’m receiving yours. I’ve got sheaves of them since I arrived in S. Africa. I expect some will still be arriving here for me when I’m on my way home and will then have to be sent back to England again. Still, that’s looking some time ahead.
I shall be going along to the Smyth’s again on Sunday and I shall meet Fred Rolph once more. He is over on a week-end pass from Queenstown again. Lucky blighter! He’ll have finished his night-flying by now I should think. As far as this course goes everything has gone fine so far. So long as we can stick it out for the next three [deleted] of [/deleted] or four weeks everything in the garden will be lovely.
I don’t know whether you all remember some fire-fighting competition years ago on the Gas Company’s Recreation Ground [inserted] Clough Road [/inserted] in Hull between the works’ teams. I saw something very similar on Sunday when I went to the local Rugby ground with Mrs Smyth to see a demonstration by the A.F.S. of the South African railways including competitions between the various departments. They were all very keen, & as I say, it took me back some years. I hope all of you are feeling fit. Cheerio one more, God bless you all,
Ron. XXXXXX
