Title

Argentan Marshalling Yard

Description

A vertical aerial photograph showing rail marshalling yard at Argentan. Road running parallel to railway tracks from lower left to upper right (now D158) with another joining from top left (now D238A). Argentan railway station is visible opposite this junction. River in top left is the River Orne. Buildings between road and railway appear totally destroyed. Another industrial site in the bottom left appears unaffected. Several long strings of railway wagons are in the sidings. Three or more have been broken by bomb craters and wagons thrown off the tracks. A larger wagon or locomotive is across the track in the centre of the photograph. Bomb craters throughout and into the surrounding countryside. Submitted with caption; “Argentan in N. France”.
