RAF Station
Little Staughton
St. Neots, Hunts.
14th August 1944
Dear Mrs. Wareing,
You will have had letters condoling with you in the very trying news about your husband. As Padre on this station I would like to add my own little word of sympathy.
I had several chats with Bob about Lincolnshire, as I have a parish in that County, near Sleaford. I was very sorry indeed to know he was “missing”.
Of course, missing folk these days have a fair chance of turning up. On the other

hand, let us hold fast to our simple faith that even if the “worst” should come about, God can work out His Eternal Purpose & good will even in what we humans call “tragedy”. I know your faith will see you through this trying time.
I am
Yours sincerely
A.W. Steedman S/L
Station Chaplain.
P.S. I have acted as “Effects Officer” during the latter’s temporary absence, & would say, in that capacity, that your husband’s effects have been sent to RAF Central Depository, Colnbrook, near Slough, Bucks, from whom you will hear in due course. Communications on this subject to be addressed to them.

S/LDR Wareing, & the others, are remembered in our Station Church. So are their relatives.
