Dear Mum,
Had one letter from you & two from Betty since we’ve been here. Ken went back to our last station one night & picked them up along with about 20 others for the rest of the blokes. Hope there are no more laying round there again. Haven’t had much flying yet but enough to realise that the Lancs are very good. We got up early this morning & went into Nottingham for some dinghy drill in the boat baths, enjoyed it although it was a bit colder than home. Finished early enough to wander round the place a bit, do some shopping & have a quick feed. Peter has bought a little motor car. 1934 [indecipherable word] Ford for £25. It goes O.K. & with the [deleted] [indecipherable word] [/deleted] tuning up & general overhauling that he & Don have given it in the last few days there isn’t a thing wrong with it. Holds four, is a sedan no broken windows or [deleted] [indecipherable word] [/deleted] roof. Real bargain I reckon. Quite a lot of the blokes are going in for cheap used cars & motor bikes now that we’re getting close to Ops. Until then one can’t get any petrol except for leave but on Ops they give you about 15 gals a quarter I think, depending on the size of the vehicle. Got word from Edinburgh that my wallet has been found but no joy from Newcastle as yet. So long for now Mum.
Love to all at home. Bert XXXX.
