Dear Mum,
Here we are again. A bit longer than usual I’m afraid but we’ve been very busy for about four days now & I’ve kept putting it off. Been to Germany three nights out of the last four & if that isn’t busy I don’t know what is. We haven’t had any trouble with any of them so far & have done eight of the quota of 30-35 to be done before taking a years spell – generally runs into a year they tell me which must surely mean going home.
Have had a lot of mail in the past few days two from you, three from Betty & also three bundles of [indecipherable word], Yank & Smiths Weekly, one from Rene (says she’s putting on a spot of weight). Also I’ve recently started corresponding with some of the old Mudgee clan & got my second letters from Bert Campbell & Taffy Madell. Taffy sent some extracts from the Guardian about Terry & Jimmy Cameron going off.
I sent him Beryl’s photo & one of Betty’s just to look at & send back & he reckons he’s had a devil of a job to get the lads to part with Beryl. Anyway he wishes to be remembered to the family & “love to Beryl”. Who said she couldn’t get a feller. Believe they’ve started a new mail service & one from Betty came two days quicker than an airgraph. All for now.
Lots of love to everyone at home. Bert XXXX
