A very bad month for mail – everyone is faring badly. Hope you are hearing from me more often now. Had the sad news today that the parcel you sent me in June safely arrived at the last camp & was forwarded [censored words] was looking forward to the blanket & slippers particularly & am running short of tooth paste & shoe blacking. The last month has been putrid for weather, not particularly cold but so wet! One result is that my senses have again vanished after 2 or 3 months service. I don’t expect to be able to taste again until next summer at the earliest. My own fiddle has been glued together again & is behaving quite well. Hope youre [sic] both well – Fondest love
John.
