Dear Sirs,
Official History of the R.A.F. Volume III
On page 277 of the above volume there is a very slight inaccuracy. The raid on Berchtesgaden on 25th April 1945 included not only Lancasters but at least one Halifax. I was the pilot of one from No. 192 Squadron (B.S.) of 100 Group; in addition to our normal investigation duties, which may [inserted] on this occasion [/inserted] not have been taken too seriously, some bombs were dropped.
[deleted] It was most a [/deleted] It was a most enjoyable trip (“Wing Commander's weather”), and as a raid probably as safe as any, but it was also a most satisfying [inserted] climax to the war [/inserted] [deleted] experience [/deleted] and it seems a pity to have deprived the Halifax of its place 'at the death'
[page break]
I have enjoyed immensely all three volumes. It was difficult during the war to have much idea of the R.A.F's work as a whole and this history has been well worth waiting for.
Yours faith.
