I am directed to inform you that a War Gratuity is payable in respect of the Royal Air Force service of the above-named [deleted]officer[/deleted]/airman, and to enclose a form of application for payment which should be completed and returned in the reply paid envelope.

If Probate or Letters of Administration were obtained in connection with the Estate, the Grant should, if possible, be forwarded for inspection with your application.

If a Grant of Representation was not obtained and the Service Estate as shared with others, their names and present address should be furnished.

With reference to the letter from this department dated the 18th September 1943, I am directed to inform you, with great regret, that in view of the lapse of time and the and the absence of any news concerning your son, 1390280 Sergeant A. Ansell, since he was reported missing, it is now proposed to take action to presume his death for official purposes.

I am accordingly to ask that you will be good enough formally to confirm that you have received no further evidence or news regarding him.
