Dear Mum, Dad, Hazel and Norman,
I’ve received two more airgraphs today and yesterday. One brought the news of Hazel’s success in the school sports. That was a very good performance, Hazel; keep it up. I think it deserves some regard. Ask the exchequer (Mother) for 10/- out of the allotment. By the way, your last letter was dated 9/6/43 so it took only 16 days. I was a little shaken to hear on the radio last night about a heavy raid on Hull and I pray that you are alright. I shall be worried until I receive news from you. I hope you won’t have any more before I get home. It makes you feel so helpless out here, listening to news of what is happening.
As for the bomb site scroungers, it’s a marvel that no-one has tumbled to their game yet. I’m glad to hear that Doris is getting well again. Is she home yet? Norman must certainly be getting plenty of training in with his darts and table tennis. I wish I had the time. I have take [sic] 9 of the 14 exams. now with chiefly minor ones to come. I know, so far, that I have passed the first 6 so things look rosy (at present). We shall be starting our 14th week on Monday, as you will know by the time since I was at Woodbrook.
