Title

Bomben gegen England
Bombs against England

Description

The first part of the book focuses on one of the nine German fighter planes from the First Staffel, carrying out an operation on an English convoy in the Shetland Isles. They are keen to emulate the success of their fellow crew members in the Second Squadron. They hit a destroyer, a cruiser and an English aircraft, one of six fighters attacking them. However, their aircraft is hit in the right propeller and their pilot shot in the hip. The navigator takes over, piloting with only one engine and ice on the aircraft. The injured pilot manages to land the aircraft. They are warmly greeted on their delayed return.

The navigator and pilot (in his hospital bed) are personally presented with the Iron Cross by their commanding officer.

Less than a week later all three squadrons, including the Commander in Chief, take to the skies when they receive orders to attack part of the English Home Fleet at Scapa Flow in the Shetland Isles. Their mission is successful: they quickly hit six heavy ships and partially destroy them, taking out anti-aircraft guns and three airfields which were protecting the Home Fleet. The mood is very positive.

The book concludes by saying that hundreds of squadrons and thousands of men on Germany’s coasts are ready to fly and fight against England to "secure the future German race".
