Relates early life and employment before the war. Was RAF reserve and was called up at beginning of the war. Mentions training including operational training unit before joining 9 Squadron. Includes letter describing in some detail his first operation and mentions that they had been briefed for the second one. Speculates on getting leave. Mention telegram informing that he was missing but safe. Describes forced landing after operation to Torino. After internment, all crew returned safely and resumed operational flying. Mentions crewman Sergeant Willis awarded MM and Sergeant Blaydon being killed later while serving with 582 Squadron. Includes a poem written by Harold on a post card.
