Description

Observer’s and air gunner’s flying log book for P C Geary, air gunner, covering the period from 24 October 1940 to 17 June 1942. Detailing his flying training, operations flown and instructor duties. He was stationed at RAF Dumfries, RAF Lossiemouth, RAF Newton, RAF Manby and RAF Dalcross. Aircraft flown in were DH9, Fairy Fawn, Westland Wapiti, Hart, Hind, Tiger Moth, Tomtit, Avro 504, Whitley, Harrow, Wellington, Liberator, Defiant and Oxford. He flew a total of 32 operations with 150 squadron, one daylight and 31 night operations. Targets were Boulogne, Mannheim, Bremen, Hamburg, Hannover, Duisburg, Osnabruck, Brest, Kiel, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Bielefeld, Le Havre, Frankfurt, Rheydt, Turin, Dunkirk, and Cherbourg. On 24 July 1941 he shot down two ME109’s, for which he was awarded the DFM. His pilots on operations were Pilot Officer Blake, Pilot Officer Lamdreth, Sergeant Cappleman, and Sergeant Gainsford.
