My dearest Jean,

For the first time for a week I am able to sit down and write you a letter knowing I shan't be moving in a few hours.

Expect you have received Mother's phone call saying I was in England, we landed on Monday and came here Tuesday, I thought I should be able to ring you last night but all private calls were stopped owing to security, however better

luck next time

Naturally I can't tell you anything in this letter, but theres nothing to worry about, every one is quite safe and we did do a little sight seeing as well.

Was so glad to receive your three letters, the cake was really wizard and as Mother gave me a tin I believe its improved with keeping, its still lovely and moist and we had a slice last night.

Its rather funny regarding the dentist and my tooth, it was rather near the nerve and he froze the gum, drilled it and put in

a tempary [sic] filling, told me to come in the next day, that was eight days ago! expect he thought he had lost a customer when we didn't turn up.

So sorry to hear work has’nt gone down too well, expect you are settling down again, well just another five weeks and you become unsettled again, because that man should be on leave again, of course I might alter my mind and spend it with the blonde at Ramsgate, should be

O.K by you if Wilbur has’nt gone overseas yet.

I don't think the vegetable idea was very good, of course theres always a way of dodging it. I shan't tell you how but I have’nt been in the Raf for nearly five years without learning a thing or two

I've just turned to [deleted letter] your second letter, thought I better answer them all to keep up to date, regarding the fruit cake, think this type is by far the best, I'm not quite so keen on rock cakes (they damage too many hammers) regarding holidays, the Isle of Wight is very nice, I certainly had a good holiday

but until recently it was out of bounds to visitors, however expect thats altered now although the place might be like [deleted letter] Broadstairs. I've been looking at the Nuffield Aircrew leave scheme, they have places all over the country, usually first class hotels, they allow you a week at reduced rate and also you can bring a friend, the only snag is you have to book about a month in advance, however I'll get the gen more fully, of course I dont know how long this scheme will run.

Ron was telling me a lot about

it.

Cheerio for the moment, give my regards to Mother & Dad, take care of yourself darling,

All my love

Yours

Jack
