My darling Jean,
Just a few words to let you know the old car made it O.K. it ran pretty well until we reached Newmarket then one of the plugs oiled up, we did’nt stop so it was’nt very serious.
I met the other two as arranged, we had a couple for the road and

left at 7.45. We made very good time, stopped at a transport cafe near Baldock for ham and chips, coffee etc and finally arrived in camp at 11.30. quite a nice journey and much more pleasant than by rail.
I've just cut the cake and its really lovely, must have mixed a lot more than ordinary ingredients in it, was so nice, did you stir in a little love as well?
At 2 o/c I duly arrived at

the dentist, he's done his stuff, put in a tempory [sic] filling as time was short, anyway it won't take long to fill.
How has work gone today? not too well I suppose, still don't be too miserable its only five weeks and six days to the next leave.
Well, darling, not much more news at the moment, shall be writing again in a few days.
Take care of yourself, all my love, dearest,
Yours
Jack
