My dearest

Was so glad to receive your letter today, sorry I have’nt written before but on Monday we were told there were some postings in and we would know on Tuesday morning, it was quite right but I was’nt on the list, the same happened today but I decided to write anyway, at the moment we are not posted and if we are still here on Friday I shall probably come home for the week-end but if I do I will send you a telegram to Crondall.

I had quite a good journey up on Sunday, arrived at Kings Cross at 11.30, of course the 11.45 was full up but I saw a carriage reserved for some R.A.F. party, I got in on the off chance and had the carriage to myself, had a nice sleep and when I got to [deleted] Kings Cross [/deleted] Doncaster I met another chap and we found an empty train had a good sleep and caught the bus to camp.

Please excuse to ink but I borrowed some and it looks as though it has been watered, this I’ve just scrounged off Bill.

These last two days I’ve been working extremely hard – farming, we have been potato picking and my back is nearly in half, we’ve

done two days 6 hours each day have earned 15/- – 1/3 an hour[deleted] s [/deleted] still it passes the time [deleted] ayway [/deleted] away, We got on alright, managed to win some rations, and the farmers wife gave us 1/2 doz eggs, so I swapped these with Bill for a tin of milk and a tin of beans so thats something else for our store cupboards.

Well, darling not much more to write about, I miss you terribly, feel very cold at night!

Hope you are enjoying your cooking! practice makes perfect!.

Give my love to Mother and Dad also please remember me to Mr & Mrs Gale.

Cheerio for the moment, take care of yourself darling

all my love

Jack
