Dear Mrs. Gorfunkle,
I am very deeply grieved to have to tell you that your son, Sgt. Norman Gorfunkle, has been reported killed in action.
The only other news we have is that three of the crew are safe as prisoners of war in Germany. Two of them are Colonials, but none the less I am sending you the addresses of their next-of-kin, as I feel you might like to contact them for any information they may receive.
Your son, during the time he was with us, earned a high reputation both for his skill and for his devotion to duty. He was always cheerful, and he made many friends. I would like to tell you that the news of his death has come as a great blow to everyone of us.
May I tender to you my very deepest sympathy.
