LETTERS HOME. (see article in Sole Survivor)

1) To Mair
The girl I first met in 1939 when I went to work for the Vale of Clwyd Creamery, Llandyrnog, Denbighs. She was only 15 then but all turned out well in the end. We married 2/2/46 and lived happily ever after – still married!
2) To my parents and others.
Please note that any from Dick Morris are mostly from me, trying to confuse the Germans about the number sent – our allotment being 1 letter and two cards per month. I, not being a smoker, turned my Red Cross allocation of 50 cigarettes per parcel into extra cards and food. I could never understand why anyone would exchange unwanted letters or food from their parcels for cigarettes. Photos had to be stitched on to letters.

Notes:- letter 25/1/42 sent after leaving hospital and from Stalag VIIA shows that I had given details of my crew loss to the Red Cross. I later learnt after contacting their relatives from 1994 onwards that no one had ever been notified or heard a word about what had occurred.
All through my three and a half years of captivity I kept on saying “Hope to- see you soon”
The card 13/11/42 shows that the seeds for emigration were sown but did not germinate until we emigrated to WA in 1967.
