Dear Madam,

I have heard with much regret that your husband, Police Constable John Thomas Jones, has been reported missing and presumed killed in action while serving with the Royal Air Force and I ask you to accept my sincere sympathy in your bereavement.

Your husband's name is being inscribed on the Roll of Honour of those members of this Force who have lost their lives while on active service with His Majesty's Armed Forces. The Roll of Honour is kept at New Scotland Yard, where it can be seen at any time, and I hope that, if you wish, you will not hesitate to come and see it. I am enclosing a Certificate of your husband's service in this Force.

Yours truly,
[signature]
Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis.

Mrs. Jones,
25, Priory Road,
