Your ref P.428703/2/P.4.A.3.
25 February, 1946.
Madam,
I am directed to refer to your letter of 15th November, 1945, and to say that information has now been received regarding the target of your husband’s aircraft, which was engaged on a sea mining operation off the West Danish coast.
No news has been received of your husband, Flight Sergeant J.T. Jones, or any member of his crew since they were reported missing. It is therefore impossible to state the definite fate of the aircraft.
The fact that the aircraft was operating off the West Danish coast, the lapse of time and complete absence of news, can only point to the sad conclusion that the aircraft came down in the sea and the crew lost their lives.
In these circumstances the Department is reluctant to anticipate that any definite news of your husband’s fate will be received.
A Certificate of Death, as normally accepted by the Principal Probate Registry, is enclosed and it is hoped, will meet with your requirements.
Your change of address has been noted in the Department’s records.
I am, Madam,
Your obedient Servant,
J. Parkinson
for Director of Personal Services.
