In the left hand photograph, the main dock is orientated vertically, with the submarine pen forming a square at its lower left hand end. The right hand photograph shows the same area with the dock and jetty edges obliterated by bomb craters. The island to bottom right is Ile Saint Michel. Explanatory text underneath. Submitted with description 'Target photographs of 06/08/1944 daylight attack by 617 Sqn, RAF Bomber Command on the Lorient U-boat pens'. Note; 617 Sqn used Tallboys in this attack.
