My Dear Frances: I am afraid that it is already too late for this card to arrive before your birthday but at least it will tell you that I haven’t forgotten all about you. I hope you had lots of presents & that among them was one from me. Perhaps I shall be home in time for your next birthday & able to give you something myself. Mother writes a lot to me about you & I’m so pleased & proud to know what a good little girl you are. While I am away, I hope you will look after Mother well & see that she behaves herself always and is a credit to her daughter – she wants some looking after, I know but you must do your best. Have a happy birthday, Frances. Love
