Datum: 6th February 1944.
Only 2 letters from you so far this year both of which were [inserted] of [/inserted] earlier date than I had before xmas – so I still don’t know anything of your location or mode of living. I have developed another cold (my third this winter) but so far has escaped flu which is prevalent (very). Otherwise I’m very fit but longing for you more than ever. For a change the camp is moderately dry underfoot & its possible to move about with[inserted]out[/inserted] discomfort. Had an excellent food parcel from Grunfelds Swiss friends, sent this time from Portugal. They are very, very kind. I’ll try to send a card of thanks if I can share one. Thanks to the generous cig & tobacco parcels (mentioned before) I have been able to help some room mates who are very short. Love both
John
