Dear Mr. Madgett,
You will by now have received my letter giving you all of the particulars available to us.
The award of the Distinguished Flying Medal was the result of some grand work done by your son prior to his being commissioned. It was not for any one particular incident, but for gallantry and devotion to duty throughout his tour of operations up to the date of his being commissioned.
I would just like to say again how much we all hope that good news of your son and his crew will reach us soon.
Yours very sincerely
