Letter to Director of Personnel Services. Reference letter to Madgetts on February 18 1944. Notes that they received a letter from Wing Commander 61 Squadron at Syerston that their son was missing after air operation on 17/18 August 1943. They also received a letter on 9 August of Hedley's award of a Distinguished Flying Medal. They have heard nothing further regarding the decoration and would be proud to receive it on his behalf.

Dear Sir
Reference your letter of Feb 18th 1944 re the late Pilot Officer H R Madgett 147519
On the 18th August 1943 we received a letter from the Wing Commander of No 61 Squadron at Syerston advising that my Son was missing [deleted] [indecipherable word] [/deleted] after air operation on August 17/18, also a covering letter dated August 19th from which we learnt that he had been awarded the D.F.M.
Up to now [deleted] we [/deleted] I have not heard anything further regarding his decoration. Naturally I shall be very pleased to receive it [inserted] on his behalf [/inserted] and would be glad if you could inform me when I may expect to receive it.
[deleted] If I have not add [sic] this letter to the right quarter perhaps you would kindly /deleted]
