Madam,
[underlined] 658930 Sergeant A. Bain. [underlined]
With reference to the temporary allowance of 40s.9d a week at present being paid to you by this Department, I am directed to inform you that in consequence of the official presumption of the death of your husband, payment of the allowance, as such, will cease as from the [inserted] 18 [/inserted]th May, 1944.
After that date, the question of your title to a pension will be a matter for the Ministry of Pensions who will be communicating with you in the near future.
In these circumstances, I am to request that you will be good enough to return your present allowance book No. FAJ.291465 in the enclosed envelope immediately after you have cashed the order due on the 11th May, 1944.
