Dear
[deleted] 1. [/deleted] the attached cutting from today's Daily Mirror is rather amusing and very satisfying to all of us at Foulsham.
2. Perhaps you will remember the unfortunate incident where one of 192's Halifaxes landed at R.A.F. Staverton and was damaged in the process of being pulled out from an over-shoot.
3. Perhaps you may remember, too, that S/Ldr. Crotch was reproved for his part in the proceedings – mainly for allowing one “gullible ferry pilot”, F/Lt. Allen, talking him into sending a Halifax to an airfield which was not altogether suitable for heavy aircraft.
4. We have followed the case with great interest, especially Crotch, who naturally felt that the wretched Allen should have been punished too. Crotch now reluctantly admits that he has had his full pound of flesh.

5. We are not absolutely certain that it is the same Allen, but we feel pretty confident that it is, as he was described as an ex P.F.F. Flight Lieutenant pilot, with no gongs, lived in the Staverton area and, as can be seen from the attached report, was a shocker of no mean order.
