OFFICERS' MESS,
R.A.F. STATION,
CHEDBURGH,
Nr. BURY ST. EDMUNDS,
SUFFOLK.
Sunday 22nd July '45
Dear Sir,
I am very sorry indeed that I wasn't able to get up to either 192 Sq Party or the Mess Party. I did make every effort, but transport to Foulsham from here is very slow – to put it mildly & also I'm being kept fairly busy. Funnily enough I had to go to Group on each of the days to attend conferences, which made things even more difficult.
I certainly miss Foulsham
[page break]
and the Old Squadron very much here. The spirit (and I didn't mean liquid!!) is completely different. However it was asking too much to hope to find anything like it else where.
I have a very fine office here – which is a redeeming feature – on the first floor of flying control, & have a complete[inserted]ly[/inserted] free hand in what I do. Happily the C.O. nothing of the mysteries of the ancient [underlined] art [/underlined] of Navigating, as he interferer in most other departments but leaves me alone.
You may have heard from your
[page break]
old friend Jeff. that he is going to Bari as Station Nav. I am going there myself on Tuesday, returning Thursday, and I understand he may be coming along in the same aircraft – What [underlined] have [/underlined] I done to deserve it? Anyhow, I'm looking forward to it inspite of that – It should be a very pleasant & interesting trip.
Please remember me kindly to the G/C, Ken and the lads - quite impossible to name them all. I am always coming across Ken's name on various orders etc. here.
[page break]
With best wishes to yourself and the Squadron
Yours sincerely
