Dear Mrs. Wynn
I believe that your husband Sgt. [Sergeant] Wynn was a member of my son’s crew when they failed to return on the night of 25th to 26th May last. My son was Squadron Leader P.R. Turgel D.F.C. & was piloting the plane on that raid. I am anxious, as probably you are also, to gain any possible information I can about him or any member of his crew, so I am writing to the next of kin,

[page break]

in the hopes, that if we keep in touch with each other, we may be able to help one and other by passing on any information about any members of the crew even if not our own. I should be more than grateful if you would write to me & let me know if & when you have any news of your husband.
At present all the information I have is that two members of the crew have been reported killed P/O Petts & P/O Russell & one other as yet unidentified, that leaves four, of which there is still no news, and

[page break]

there is every possibility that your husband and my son may be amongst these. The above information I was able to get last week from the relatives [sic] department of the R.A.F. I am now writing to the searches department of the Red Cross to ask if they can trace any member of the crew who might be in hospital and if you have not already done this perhaps you would like me to let you know if I hear anything.
May I offer you my deepest sympathy during these anxious days.
Yours sincerely
Fanny M Turgel
