Dear Kathleen,
Just a few lines as an expression of my deepest sympathy after hearing from Mother of your bad news.
I know, Kathleen, nothing I can say will ease your anxiety but what you must [underlined] not [/underlined] do is to give up hope for Ian’s safety. Scores & Scores of our boys reported as
[page break]
missing turn out to be quite safe so first trust in God’s guidance and all will be well.
I know you wont [sic] feel very much like writing at present so dont [sic] bother to answer this: of course I shall be pleased to hear of any good news as soon as you receive it.
For the present then, my very [smudged] sincere [/smudged] regards to you & youve [sic] been [undecipherable]
Sincerely Yours
[underlined] Fred Hardman [/underlined]
I am pleased to say my head is much better.
