At the start of the war 18 Squadron was equipped with Blenheims and sent to France as part of the Air Component of the British Expeditionary Force. In May 1940 the squadron returned to Britain at RAF Watton in 2 Group. Over the next 18 months the squadron had spells at RAF Gatwick, RAF West Raynham, RAF Great Massingham, RAF Oulton and RAF Horsham St Faith. From October 1941 to January 1942 the squadron was deployed in Malta and Egypt and was reformed back in Britain in May 1942 at RAF Wattisham. From August to November 1942 the squadron returned to RAF West Raynham from where, still flying Blenheims, it was transferred to North Africa in November 1942. It converted to Bostons in March 1943 and remained in the Mediterranean Theatre until the end of the war.Refinements:
