Madam,
With reference to your letter of 20th July, I am directed to inform you that consideration has been given to your representations regarding compensation for the loss of your son's effects and it has been decided to credit his estate with the amount of £6.10.0d (Six pounds, ten shillings).
Belated information has however been received from the Middle East concerning an overpayment of £2.1.0d (Two pounds, one shilling) made to your son. This information was received too late for an appropriate adjustment in the settlement of the Estate but, further monies having now become available for the benefit of the estate, necessary adjustment has been made. I am accordingly to forward a payable order for £4.9.0d (Four pounds, nine shillings) in final disposal of the matter.
I am, Madam,
Your obedient Servant,
[signed]
Miss Annie Tetley,
4, Buckhold Road,
Siddall,
Halifax.
