William Jackson’s Flying Log Book 2 from 15th February 1943 until 26th November 1946. Posted to 23 Operational Training Unit, 15 Operational Training Unit (October 1943) and 1673 Heavy Conversion Unit (May 1944). Operational posting to 355 Squadron in India on 1st July 1944. Posted to 232 Squadron in May 1945. Demobilised in April 1946.
Served at RAF Pershore, RAF Harwell, RAF Hampstead Norris, RAF Kolar, RAF Salbani, RAF Palam.
Aircraft flown were Wellington, Lysander, Defiant, Martinet, Tiger Moth, Liberator B-24, C-47 Dakota, York, Sunderland, Sandringham, Hythe, Halifax.
He flew 27 operations with 355 Squadron (24 day, 3 night). Targets included Akyab, Burma Siam Railway, Moulmein, Maymyo, Mandalay, Kyetsha, Yenangyaung, Mahlaing, Taunggyi, Bangkok, Mataban, Rangoon, Mingaldon, Pa-Auk, Prome, Tavoy, Elephant Point, Megui, Chumphon.
On the night of 3/4 August 1944 the whole crew baled out due to shortage of fuel. All made it back to base.
