Monday.

My darling,

Just to send you a few lines to let you know I arrived safely, had rather a shock at Waterloo Underground as the escalator was jammed and the crowd were queued up for about 100 yards, the subways were the same and I got to Kings Cross at 11.10, however there are three trains up, one at 11.15, 11.30 & 11.45. As the first train was packed I caught the 11.45 and got a decent seat, the train was on time and arrived at Doncaster 4 p.m. Bell caught the 11.15 and had gone on and when I got my bicycle

[page break]

I discovered that the back tyre was flat, however I stopped a policeman and borrowed his pump, it stayed up OK and I was back at camp by 5.40. about an hour and a quarters run

There's no chance of getting leave apparently, they know all the answers, shall probably be here for a month and according to the gen should get a 48 next week, anyway. I'll let you know definately [sic] later on.

Well darling, just time to catch the post, give my love to Mother & Dad, take care of yourself my dear,

All my love

your loving husband

Jack.
