Dear Mr Price
As the Officer responsible for the supervision of your son’s personal belongings I do want to assure you of my deepest sympathy with you during this period of anxious waiting. Nothing is known yet beyond the fact that the aircraft failed to return from an operational exercise and we can only hope that eventually we may hear that the crew is safe, even if prisoners of war. It is extremely hard for you to have to wait for more definite news, and I should like you to feel that we both understand and sympathise with you in your anxiety.
Your son’s effects have been carefully packed, and in accordance with Air Ministry Orders they are now being sent to:-
The Central Depository,
R.A.F. Station, Colnbrook,
Slough, Bucks.
I have to advise you that certain Statutory formalities must be completed before any articles are released, but you can send any enquiries to “The Officer Commanding, The Central Depository”, if you so wish.
If there is anything further I can do to help you please do not hesitate to write me. Meanwhile I express the hope that the future will bring you good news.
Yours sincerely,
