From O/C 204 Squadron

Dear Mrs Monks,
We are very sorry to hear that your son has been reported missing and trust that before long you will have more satisfactory news.
The son of a friend of mine was reported missing and was not heard of for some time and he finally arrived home by devious routes and we all sincerely hope that will happen with Maurice.
[page break]
He was an excellent cadet and we expected that he would do well in the R.A.F. and he bore this out with his success during the training period and his subsequent promotions.
We sincerely sympathise with you during this period of anxiety and we hope that you will soon hear good news.
Yours sincerely,
